About Us

In Weiser, two groups are involved in preserving our historic places — and while they’re easy to confuse, they serve distinct roles. This website is dedicated to the work of the Weiser Architectural Preservation Committee (WAPC).

The Weiser Architectural Preservation Committee (WAPC) is a private, nonprofit organization at the heart of local preservation efforts. WAPC raises funds to match grants the city can’t cover, owns two historic properties, hosts community heritage events, and partners with organizations like the Chamber of Commerce and Main Street groups. In larger cities, preservation often comes with dedicated staff and budgets — but here in Weiser, WAPC fills that crucial role, working hand-in-hand with the community to keep our history alive and thriving.

The Historic Preservation Commission, by contrast, is part of the City of Weiser’s government. Their job is more formal: advising elected leaders, applying for preservation grants, and helping shape city policies. The commission is made up of volunteers and receives no funding from the City, but their official status adds weight and credibility to local preservation efforts — especially when applying for grants. While their work is important, they are separate from WAPC and are not the focus of this site.
